The healing power of a gentle touch
Infants, Children, Teenagers, Adults, People with Special Needs
Julie Greenwood
I have been a Cranial Sacral Therapist for many years and have witnessed wonderful (in some cases profound) changes in my clients, I truly believe everyone can benefit fromCST, not only physically but also emotionally.
Many children and adults experience concussions and injuries, from playing sports. This is an important time to receive Cranial Sacral Therapy. When the body and cranial sacral rhythm return to normal balance, healing is much quicker.
Although I work with people of all ages, working with children and adolescents is my true passion. Depression and anxiety is on the rise in children, along with ADD, ASD, learning disabilities, bullying, low self esteem, and behavioral problems. Children experience stress as we do. They cannot always express themselves and become frustrated. Through CST many have experienced wonderful healing. Cranial Sacral Therapy gives the body and mind a chance to release anxiety.
Think of the inside of your body as a waterfall flowing smoothly. Now visualize parts of the waterfall being frozen, or stuck. The waterfall can no longer run smoothly and other parts of the waterfall start to compensate for the blockages. Similarly, tissues and cells need smooth blood and energy flow in order to heal and replenish. When our bodies are blocked due to pain, injuries, emotional stress, and environmental toxins, the body cannot perform its job of self healing. So many of us are over-worked and stressed, we rarely have time to take care of ourselves. The body is often screaming at us to slow down and listen to it. During a CST treatment the body can truly relax, release deep tension and facial restrictions to restore balance.

Infants
Birth is one of the most stressful events of life. Although we think of birth as a natural process, it is not always so. Babies can be in posterior and transverse positions requiring painful forceps, suction and cesareans. All our nerves come through the small opening at the base of the skull. If this area is strained during the birth process it can create pressure on these delicate nerves, blocking the smooth flow of blood and energy. The same is true with an infant’s skull; a misshapen head can create pressure. In many cases this self corrects through suckling and crying, but not always. If your baby is experiencing, colic, excessive crying, poor sleep, back arching or strained neck movements, this is an indication for CST. Treating an infant is very gentle and safe and may only require a few treatments.
Autism and Children with Special Needs
Raising a child with special needs can be very rewarding but also challenging for the child, siblings and parents. CST can help relieve stress for the whole family. Julie has worked with children for over 30 years, not only with CST but as a swimming instructor, and a Pediatric Dental Assistant (25 years) and finds a natural connection to children especially those with special needs.
